ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL

School begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. When you drop off your child in the classroom, please remember to sign him/her in on the sign in sheet. If class has begun when you enter the room, please be quiet and quick with your child as to not to disturb the rest of the class.

Dismissal is at 2:00 p.m. from the classroom door. It is important that you make arrangements to make sure someone is waiting to pick−up your child. Often children get upset when they don’t see someone who is picking them up. If your child is enrolled in extended care, then he/she will remain in the classroom.

If it is necessary for your child to leave school early, please send a note in the morning so your child will be ready to be picked up.

ATTENDANCE

Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is a must! This is crucial to his/her success. Please notify me with a note to let me know if your child will be absent the following day. If your child gets sick unexpectedly, notify the office as soon as possible.

Patterns for school attendance are set at an early age.

SHOW AND TELL

The children will have an opportunity to share items from home, school, or nature with the class at the end of each school day. The item will be based on the theme of the week. We ask that the item be sent to school in a bag and placed directly in the child’s cubby.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Please stress the importance of school to your child.

Throughout the school year, there will be a variety of special classroom activities and celebrations. I encourage you to attend these functions when possible and support them by sending in needed supplies or treats. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and sends a message that you value school.

PARENT/TEACHER RELATIONSHIP

In order to achieve maximum success, a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary. Throughout the year, I will communicate through notes, letters, and conferences. I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns. You can write a note and leave it on my desk or in the front office.

MEALS

If your child is attending before school care and you wish for him/her to eat breakfast at school, you will need to provide the breakfast (e.g. milk and cereal, pop tarts, etc...). If you would like your child to have something heated, our kitchen is equipped with a microwave oven.

The Children’s Village provides a morning snack for all the children and parents are responsible to provide a lunch. Please use ice packs to keep your child’s lunch cold. Lunches are not allowed in the refrigerator.

Please be advised that no candy is to be brought to school. It becomes a problem at lunchtime because the child sees the candy and will not eat anything else.

If your child is enrolled in extended care, then we will also provide an afternoon snack.

GROSS MOTOR PLAY

The children will have time set aside everyday for gross motor play. Children will go outside everyday as long as the wind chill factor stays above 32°F. The amount of time spent outdoors will depend on the temperature that particular day. When inclement weather occurs, the children will have playtime in the classroom.

APPROPRIATE CLOTHING

Please dress your child according to the forecast for the day. If you know that the weather is going to be chilly on a specific day, please send your child to school with a sweater or light jacket.

Please have your child wear sneakers or enclosed shoes to school everyday. The children will be outside everyday unless it is raining. Also, please provide a hat, waterproof gloves, boots and pants.

Please bring in an extra set of clothing for your child. Many times children have accidents and have nothing else to wear for the remainder of the day.

Please be sure to label everything so there if no confusion as to what belongs to which child.

DISCIPLINE

It is important that you review the following rules with your child.

  • Keep the classroom neat
  • Raise your hands to speak or to get out of your seat
  • Be nice & respect everyone
  • Listen to the teacher & follow directions
  • Remain quiet and on your cot during quiet time

If a child is having trouble playing appropriately at a Learning Center, he or she will be redirected to another center. If the behavior continues, the child will have "Thinking Time" away from the group.

HOMEWORK

Periodically, your child will be sent home with a homework assignment. It may be work that was not completed at school, assignments for individual children, or a project to be created at home. It is essential that you sit with your child during this time, to answer any questions that may arise and to show your interest in your child’s education.

BIRTHDAYS

Birthdays are a special occasion for children. If you and your child would like, you may bring treats for the class to celebrate his/her birthday. Please send a note two days in advance, so I can give you an exact count of students in the class and set aside some class time for the party.
